2017 Round 7

22089282 1689845174368487 185153439765425500 n

Round 7 saw the teams head to Collie for the second time this year which always makes for a great family friendly weekend.

The usual suspects were starting from the front rows with the exception of Jim “no show/no marbles” Linehan who took a well-earned overseas holiday leaving the responsibility of coming up with stupid nicknames for everyone this round to our committee.

Grant Johnson took the line honours in all 3 races and a new lap record and Justin Chaffey good enough to hold off a fast charging Brandon Sharpe in the early models.

Hero story of the day was Terry DeSylva breaking a gearbox and going to the clubs go to parts car “previously driven by Chucky”, and getting the spares, he needed and a little help from his MCE Motorsport team and many other fellow competitors he was back in action to fight his way through the field before getting involved in a team mate tangle to decide who the number 1 driver was in the MCE camp.

2018 will see Saloon cars hold 3 championship events in Collie hopefully on the new long track, and after seeing the earth works it is going to be something to really look forward too.

The “FINAL” fight for the 2017 season is on 21st October. SEE YOU THERE!

2017 Round 4

After weeks of rain and wind the sky cleared for round 4 of the Quit Saloon Car Series with a clear sky and sunshine. Twenty three starters where soon back to twenty two after 4 laps of qualifying when the red flags came out after Chucky “i got this” Kneafsey ploughed into the wall after dropping a wheel in the wet grass causing terminal damage to car #5 .

Team mate Justin “Vernstappen” Chaffey was heard to say later l may finally have a shot at winning this one. After the tilt tray had cleaned up the mess Rick Gill had pole from Grant Johnson In AU/VT, Justin Chaffy to lead off Terry De Sylva and the rest of the early's away. Race one saw Grant turn the tables on Rick to cross the line first with Greg “Hollywood” Dyson in third . Great to see a hair gelled Hollywood back with the AU, unfortunately that was it for Greg as the engine lost power at the start of race 2 and he parked it up ,all that hard work cleaning out spider webs for 12 laps. EA/VN winner JC beating home movie star Mark “kardashian” Jones and Brandon Sharpe. Steve “Fifo” Jolly not having a good start to the day after fitting brand new rip shifter only to find he could not select top gear due to being supplied with a Holden unit. Terry also suffering a brush with the wall to DNF a long with Brock Ralf. Race 2 saw the pace car out on lap 2 when turn one sand trap became a place where AUs went to play with both of Ricks car out for the day welcome back to Brett “Sorry Rick Nail, Grant going on to win the next two races to clean sweep the day and take home the big silver ware, Justin doing the same in the early models to finish on top. The reverse grid in the early's had the Rightway boys on the front row but not for long in the retro HDT livery which looked good from the stands with plenty of comments. Well done to Warren Ellis on his first podium and Brock Ralf for a PB. If anyone knows of a VN log booked roller give Chucky a call , until next time stay on the black stuff.

2017 Round 3

Round 3 of the Quit Saloon car State championship was run at the Collie Motorplex with the Ernie Hastie memorial round. Twenty starters were greeted with wet and slippery conditions for most of the day giving the crowd some great entertainment with Saloons version of the Imperial Russian Ballet's Swan Lake, the pink power ranger being ranked 1 in pirouette but quit a few close behind.

Grant Johnson having no trouble with conditions to grab pole and 3 race wins to win the Ernie Hastie trophy for the third time. Matt Martin having a good day to give team Purple a one two for the day. Great to see Steve Martin getting around after a crash in York round the houses a few weeks ago, Crispy Vinnie also a spectator after his version of the human torch last round.

The EA/VN races where tightly contested with the boys at Hot Lap Motorsport, Chucky and JC going one two and Andrew Martin (AKA Rightway up) taking third and a lot happier in the new car after a retune and a wheel alignment.

Chucky winning all 3 races after JC missed a gear while leading on the last lap leaving the door open for Chucky to slip by. Steve Jolly (FIFO)  back again in the blue falcon ,always smiling and having a great time.

The hardest thing I have ever done in my race car was waving my team mate past with driver and car not at 100 percent knowing the marbles where his and bragging rights may last a while. Job well done to Danielle Kemp on debut in trying conditions but finishing all races, Mathew Jenkins, Mark Jones, Brandon Sharpe and Brock Boley also having their first run at Collie and completing all races.

So guys and gals until next time have a cold Emu Bitter for Ernie and stay on the black stuff.
